Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is down to 11 bouts for its upcoming UFC 240 pay-per-view (PPV) mixed martial arts (MMA) event, after the heavyweight showdown between Tanner Boser and Giacomo Lemos was pulled from Sat. night’s (July 27, 2019) fight card in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
That’s because Giacomo Lemos flunked a pre-fight drug test, according to Boser, and while a report from MMA Junkie confirmed the bout has been removed from tomorrow’s line up, the promotion has yet to release any additional details, or name the substance behind Boser’s allegations.
“I am absolutely devastated to learn that I will not be fighting in two days at UFC 240,” Boser wrote on social media. “My bitch made opponent Giacomo Lemos tested positive for a banned substance and it is too late to find a replacement as weigh ins are tomorrow morning. I thought it was strange that Lemos wouldn’t make eye contact with me at all whenever I saw him at the hotel. I know now that it’s because he’s a coward. UFC has told me that they will get me on a future card as soon as they can. I am so so sorry to all my friends and family who paid good money for tickets to come out and watch my UFC debut. I am beyond bummed.”
“The Bulldozer” will be paid his “show” purse, as well as his Reebok sponsorship money.
Boser (16-5-1) was making his Octagon debut after competing primarily on the Canadian circuit. Similarly, Lemos (6-0) racked up a bunch of wins in Brazil before getting the call up to UFC, which may no longer happen after this week’s hiccup.
