Former UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt has tested positive for coronavirus ahead of his UFC 255 pay-per-view (PPV) title fight, according to Brazilian outlet Ag Fight, which takes place Sat., Nov. 21, 2020 at a city and venue to be determined.
That’s the bad news.
The good news is Garbrandt is still more than two months out from making his Octagon return (and flyweight debut) opposite reigning 125-pound kingpin Deiveson Figueiredo, so there’s a pretty good chance “No Love” will have time to make a full recovery.
Garbrandt (12-3) will be dropping down from the bantamweight division — where he previously held a world title — after finishing Raphael Assuncao at UFC 250 back in June. Figueiredo (19-1), meanwhile, captured the vacant 125-pound strap with a devastating finish over Joseph Benavidez last July on “Fight Island.”
UFC 255 is also expected to feature the women’s flyweight title fight between reigning division champion Valentina Shevchenko and top contender Jennifer Maia. Elsewhere on the card, Mauricio Rua settles his light heavyweight score with the venerable Paul Craig.
