Former UFC bantamweight champion Cody Gabrandt becomes the latest fighter to test positive for COVID-19.
Two months out from his UFC flyweight title fight with Deiveson Figueiredo, Cody Garbrandt has tested positive for COVID-19.
AG Fight first reported the news that Garbrandt tested positive for the virus earlier this week and is currently quarantining awaiting the results of his latest test. In the report, Garbrandt is said to have suffered only mild symptoms including a headache.
Luckily for the Team Alpha Male fighter, his flyweight debut against Figueiredo is still scheduled to go ahead in the main event of UFC 255 on November 21st.
Garbrandt (12-3) picked up one of the most important wins of his career back in June, a highlight reel KO over Raphael Assuncao that is a contender for 2020 Knockout of the Year. “No Love” lost three consecutive fights all by knockout before his recent win.
Figueiredo (19-1) won the UFC flyweight title after a one-sided submission win over Joseph Benavidez in July. The Brazilian finished Benavidez back in February in their first fight, but because Figueiredo missed weight he was ineligible to win the belt.
UFC welterweight Lyman Good was the first fighter on the roster to have a confirmed positive test for COVID-19 back in March. As of September 3rd, 25 fights have been scratched due to complications with the virus, such as a fighter, family member or cornermen testing positive.
