Report: Georges St-Pierre will announce his UFC return ‘in the coming days’

After more than 2 years away from competition, Georges St-Pierre is reportedly set to return to the UFC and will make an official announcement soon.

It’s been over 2 years since Georges St-Pierre (25-2) stepped away from MMA, abdicating his UFC welterweight title after a controversial split decision win over Johny Hendricks at UFC 167. In recent months, he’s teased a potential return to the Octagon, and Freddie Roach revealed in November that GSP would conduct a six-week training camp and make his decision on whether or not he’d end his de facto retirement. UFC president Dana White, however, said “GSP is done” back in December.

Well now it looks like there’s a major development to this story, and we may have our “Will he or won’t he?” answer in a few days. A report from Quebec’s FM93 (tweeted in French only) says that GSP is expected to officially announce his UFC return.

Translation: Dan Pou has learned that Georges St-Pierre will announce his return to active competition in the UFC in the coming days.

For the record, FM93 is a highly-rated talk radio station in Quebec, and Dan Pou is a sports journalist. The UFC has not made any public comments regarding this tweet.

All that’s left to do is wait and see whether or not GSP will come out and make the grand announcement. If he is coming back, then regardless of anyone’s thoughts on whether or not he should return, it’s massive news for the sport.
