Irene Aldana faces her toughest challenge yet on August 1st with a main event slot against Holly Holm.
A women’s bantamweight fight between Holly Holm and Irene Aldana will reportedly headline an upcoming UFC event on August 1st.
ESPN first reported the news. The UFC was planning on host a pay-per-view event on August 1st, but the date has been changed to a Fight Night card. The promotion’s Apex facility in Las Vegas is expected to be the venue for the card.
Holm (13-5) fought earlier this year at UFC 246 in January, winning a decision against Raquel Pennington in an uneventful rematch. The former bantamweight champion Holm suffered a stoppage loss to Amanda Nunes at UFC 236 last year. Holm has won just three of her last seven fights.
Aldana (12-5) is coming off the biggest win of her career, a KO victory last December against Ketlen Vieira, who was undefeated at the time. Other than a close split decision loss to Pennington, Aldana has won five of her last six fights. She is ranked fifth in the women’s 135-pound rankings.
Also booked for the card on August 1st is a rescheduled middleweight fight between undefeated contender Edmen Shahbazyan (11-0) and veteran Derek Brunson (20-7).
