According to a published report, UFC flyweight contenders Joseph Benavidez and Jussier “Formiga” da Silva will tangle in Brazil in September.
Brazil’s Globo recently reported the two have agreed to fight on a UFC on FOX Sports 1 card slated for the country on Sept. 4. A venue has yet to be picked for the event.
A Team Alpha Male fighter, Benavidez is attempting to work his way back into title contention after dropping a decision to Demetrious Johnson in a bout to crown the UFC’s first 125-pound champ last September.
Since then, he’s earned a decision over Ian McCall and a second-round TKO of Darren Uyenoyama. At 18-3, Benavidez’s only career losses have come to Johnson and current UFC bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz (twice).
Da Silva, meanwhile, was at one point considered the best 125-pounder in the world. The 28-year-old Brazilian won 14 of his first 15 fights, but he stumbled in his UFC debut, as he was TKOd by John Dodson last October. “Formiga” bounced back with a decision victory over Chris Cariaso on May 18.
