Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov was feeling fine a few days ago but reports now suggest that he is facing “problems with his heart.”
UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father, Abdulmanap, has reportedly been transported to a Moscow hospital due to a “problem with his heart.”
According to Ubaydula Osmanov, a wrestling referee and close confidant of the Nurmagomedov family, Abdulmanap was transported to the Russian capital from his native Dagestan by “special flight.”
“A few days ago I spoke with Abdulmanap, he told me everything was fine, that he’s recovering,” Osmanov told RIA Dagestan (h/t RT Sports). “[But] on May 3 one of his close relatives called me and said that suddenly he felt worse, and they’d taken him on a special flight to Moscow.
“I believe there were problems with his heart.”
Abdulmanap, who underwent heart surgery in 2019 at age 56, was initially hospitalized last month with suspected pneumonia. Fearing he may have contracted COVID-19, Abdulmanap’s was tested for coronavirus, which reportedly turned up negative. Abdulmanap later told the media that he was recovering, “I feel great. Everything is fine with me.”
Apart from being Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father, Abdulmanap is also a celebrated coach and a longtime mentor for his son and a host of other Dagestani athletes. He is considered the patriarch of the Nurmagomedov family and an essential member of the UFC’s champion’s team.
