“The Black Beast” meets “The Boa Constrictor” at a UFC event on August 8th.
A fight between two very different types of heavyweights is set to headline a UFC event on August 8th, as heavy hitter Derrick Lewis meets talented grappler Alexey Oleynik.
ESPN first reported the news but the UFC is yet to confirm the pairing. The August 8th event is currently without a location or a venue to its name, but it’s reported that Las Vegas is the frontrunner to host the card.
Lewis (23-7, 1NC) fought earlier this year at UFC 247 in February, spoiling Ilir Latifi’s debut at heavyweight as Lewis won a unanimous decision. After the win, “The Black Beast” announced a serious medical issue had recently been bothering him that was “life-or-death serious.”
Oleynik (59-13-1) is fresh off a split decision win against Fabricio Werdum at UFC 249 in May. “The Boa Constrictor” also fought in January at UFC 246 defeating Maurice Greene by second-round armbar, setting a record as the first fighter to compete and win across four different decades.
Also booked for the August 8th event is a middleweight fight between Omari Akhmedov and Chris Weidman.
