“Spoke to Jorge Masvidal’s manager, Abraham Kawa, about what’s next for Masvidal,” Helwani tweeted. “He said Masvidal is targeting a return in October/November against either Nick Diaz or Colby Covington.”
Masvidal (35-15) is coming off consecutive losses to UFC Welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, most recently losing via second-round knockout at UFC 261 on April 24 at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida.
Diaz (26-9) has not competed in professional mixed martial arts since a no-contest against Anderson Silva at UFC 183 on Jan. 31, 2015, and is winless dating back to a 2011 win over B.J. Penn. UFC President Dana White said in June that he expects Diaz to fight this year.
Covington (16-2) most recently beat Tyron Woodley via round five TKO (injury) at UFC Vegas 11 on Sept. 19, 2020. UFC boss White expects a rematch between Usman and Covington to serve as the next UFC Welterweight title fight; however, a date for the proposed match-up has yet to be confirmed.
