TMZ is reporting that former UFC welterweight champ Robbie Lawler has pulled out of his scheduled UFC 205 bout with Donald Cerrone. No reason was given for Lawler’s withdrawal from the bout.
Lawler lost his title by KO to Tyron Woodley at UFC 201 in July. Prior to that he had reeled off two consecutive title defenses over Carlos Condit at UFC 195 and Rory MacDonald at UFC 189. The latter may have been one of the most brutal UFC title fights in history.
Lawler took the UFC welterweight title from Johny Hendricks by split decision at UFC 181 in December, 2014, avenging his loss to Hendricks at UFC 171 in March of that year.
No word on who Donald Cerrone will face at 205. Cerrone has rapidly emerged as a contender after three straight wins at 170 pounds. He finished Rick Story at UFC 202 in August.
