Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey hasn’t competed in California since her submission win over Cat Zingano in the UFC 184 pay-per-view (PPV) main event, which took place last February in Los Angeles.
Good thing, or she would have been forced to buy her coach a ticket.
That’s because Edmond Tarverdyan saw his cornerman license revoked by California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) after allegedly falsifying his application. That constitutes a violation of Rule 201b, according to veteran mixed martial arts (MMA) reporter Greg Savage.
Combat Sports Law has more:
The California State Athletic Commission’s agenda for an upcoming meeting on February 2, 2016 has been published and it reveals that they have revoked Tarverdyan’s seconds licence and that he is appealing this. It is unclear why his license has been revoked or for how long but unless and until this is overturned Tarverdyan will not be able to corner fighters in California. Being licensed in other ABC member jurisdictions may also prove problematic during the course of the revocation as members typically honor each others suspensions.
That means Nevada, New Jersey, and most other regulatory bodies would deny him a license.
We still haven’t heard from Tarverdyan on the matter, but he’ll certainly have the opportunity to clear the air at the upcoming appeal. That said, it hasn’t been a good few months for the man behind Glendale Fighting Club. Not only did Rousey get knocked out, he also filed for bankruptcy and endured the wrath of this “Rowdy” mom.
He might want to join his top student on that self-imposed hiatus.
