We haven’t seen a new EA UFC game since UFC 3 came out in 2018, but along with the big reveal for the upcoming Playstation 5 console came news that the franchise will be returning with a new game for current and next gen consoles.
The UFC plans on revealing more news on exactly when we can get our mitts on the game and what new features will be during their big UFC 251 Fight Island event on July 11th in Abu Dhabi. Until then, we’ll have to make due with rumors coming from gaming journalists like Forbes’ Brian Mazique, who reports that heavyweight boxing champions Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua will be playable characters in the game.
‘I would guarantee you that Tyson Fury’s in the game,” Mazique said on the Fight Guys podcast. “But I’ve also heard that Anthony Joshua is also in the game. Both of them will be unlockable if you complete the career mode.”
UFC president Dana White demurred when asked to confirm the news following UFC on ESPN 11.
“What? Where are you hearing this s**t?” he asked. “Tyson Fury … might be. Aren’t we doing this in Abu Dhabi? Why are you asking these questions now? Cuz I might tell you?”
This isn’t the first time the UFC has ported boxing stars into their mixed martial arts game. EA UFC 2 let players choose between two different versions of Mike Tyson. Other slightly unusual roster inclusions and unlockable characters in past UFC games include Bruce Lee, Joe Rogan, Dana White, and even Bruce Buffer.
Well, it’s good to know Dana White has a use for his Zuffa Boxing rolodex, at least. What do you say, Maniacs? Excited to see boxers cross over into MMA, even if it’s only in video game form?
