Lightweights Will Brooks and Nik Lentz, originally scheduled to fight at UFC 216, will instead fight at UFC Sydney in November.
A lightweight bout between Will Brooks and Nik Lentz was supposed to take place at UFC 216, but Lentz’s medical problems led to the fight’s cancellation. According to MMAjunkie, the two men have been rebooked for UFC Fight Night 121 in Sydney, Australia on November 19th. UFC officials have not confirmed the news.
Brooks (18-3) is in desperate need of a win after suffering consecutive losses to Alex Oliveira and Charles Oliveira. The former Bellator lightweight champion was granted his release last year by Scott Coker, and was able to come away with a unanimous decision over Ross Pearson in his Octagon debut. Brooks wrote on Twitter that he was compensated after the Lentz fight was scrapped, even though the official UFC 216 pay sheet did not indicate as such.
Lentz (27-8-2) returned to the lightweight division in December 2015 after a six-fight run at featherweight. After a split decision win over Danny Castillo, Lentz stopped Michael McBride at UFC 203, but was outclassed by Islam Makhachev. In a statement released after the weigh-ins, Lentz said that he was suffering from “diabetic like issues,” which affected his ability to cut weight.
UFC Fight Night: Sydney is headlined by a heavyweight bout between Fabricio Werdum and Marcin Tybura. Due to the time zone difference, the card will air on Saturday, November 18th in the US.
