Report: WSOF comped 2,899 tickets to ‘sold out’ show in New York City

When in doubt, hand ‘em out.

World Series of Fighting (WSOF) was celebrating its “sold out” mixed martial arts (MMA) event at The Theater inside Madison Square Garden on New Year’s Eve, which offered a bevy of marquee match ups including Jon Fitch vs. Jake Shields and Justin Gaethje vs. Luis Firmino.

WSOF 34 only sold 1,658 tickets, according to Bloody Elbow.

Another 2,899 were given away for free, which had to go over well for the chumps who actually paid money to get inside “The World’s Most Famous Arena.” 4,557 tickets were claimed in total for a gross revenue of $111,545.68.

The event was also watched by “millions of people,” according to COO Carlos Silva.

WSOF was forced to cancel several of last year’s events and eventually went into the shop for repairs (at great expense). The result is a rebranded promotion calling itself Professional Fighters League (PFL).
