A UFC women’s strawweight title fight between Weili Zhang and Joanna Jedrzejczyk is coming to UFC 248.
Over half a year after winning the UFC strawweight title, Weili Zhang is set to make her first title defense against former longtime champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
MMA Fighting first reported the news on Monday, though the UFC is yet to confirm the title fight. No location or venue has yet been confirmed for UFC 248, which will be the promotion’s third pay-per-view in 2019.
After just over a year and four fights into her UFC career, Zhang (20-1) found herself as the champion of the strawweight division. A decision win against Danielle Taylor in her debut was followed up by impressive wins against veterans Jessica Aguilar and Tecia Torres. The 30-year-old then dethroned Jessica Andrade by stoppage in just 42 seconds at UFC Shenzhen to become the first ever Chinese champion in UFC history.
At UFC 248 Jedrzejczyk (16-3) will try to win back the title she held for over two years, defending it five times in that period. Since losing the title to Rose Namajunas at UFC 217, Jedrzejczyk has gone 2-2 in the UFC, most recently winning a unanimous decision when she returned to strawweight against Tecia Torres after losing out on the flyweight title in late 2018.
No other fights have yet been rumored to take place on the UFC 248 card.
