Two 21 year old prospects were highlighted on the Crawford vs. Khan PPV, and both delivered. Get results here.
Before Terence Crawford and Amir Khan do battle, the Top Rank PPV presented three PPV prelim fights. Here are results from the undercard:
Teofimo Lopez def. Edis Tatli, KO (Round 5, 1:32)
In the night’s co-main event, Teofimo Lopez earned another knock-out with his stoppage victory of Edis Tatli. Lopez controlled the entire fight, going for the KO early. Tatli showed good enough defense at first, but as the fight progressed, Lopez was able to break through more. In round 4, he really began to land, seeming to hurt Tatli throughout. In round 5, he came out looking for the win and got it with a hard straight right to the body that dropped and finished Tatli.
Shakur Stevenson def. Christopher Diaz, UD (100-90, 99-91, 98-92)
Former Olympian Shakur Stevenson turned in an excellent performance and dominated this fight. He controlled early, and in the 3rd, he began to get more aggressive and land more. Stevenson had the better hand speed, and put his punches together into combinations exceptionally well, including some good body work, drowning Diaz in an onslaught of punches. Diaz was tough, and spent a lot of the fight stepping on Stevenson’s foot, but that only led to the fight going longer than it might have otherwise.
Felix Verdejo def. Bryan Vasquez, UD (97-93, 97-93, 98-92)
Verdejo and Vasquez opened the PPV by going the full 10 rounds. Verdejo picked up the much needed win, but failed to impress much along the way. Neither man was quite able to find their next level in this fight, as all rounds played out relatively the same. Verdejo had a basic gameplan, but it proved to be effective, as he outpointed Vasquez. The highlight came in the closing seconds, when both men finally bit down and began throwing caution to the wind.
