If the judges had gotten it right, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight contender, Dominick Reyes, would be planning to fight Thiago Santos for the 205-pound title, once “Maretta” is done healing up from his recent surgery.
That’s according to “The Devastator,” who will instead set his sights on reigning division kingpin, Jon Jones, because “Bones” knew how to sway the judges during his five rounds of action in the UFC 239 pay-per-view (PPV) main event last July in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“I actually had him losing by a round,” Reyes recently told the combat sports media. “I was there, I was sitting cage side. A completely objective, unbiased judging with my own eyes, I saw Thiago winning the hand exchanges and kinda pushing him back. Jon is a great champion, he knows how to win, he knows how to win the judges over. Much respect to him … Now I can fulfill my destiny, which is taking out Jon.”
Reyes will have to put his destiny on hold until he manages to get past former middleweight champion, Chris Weidman, in the UFC on ESPN 6 headliner this October in Boston, a bout that will mark the light heavyweight debut of the “All American.”
As for Jones, the promotion hasn’t been in much of a hurry to book his next fight, probably because it was waiting to see what happened with longtime rival, Daniel Cormier, in the UFC 241 main event last weekend in Anaheim.
And with that behind us, I guess we can go back to talking about this.
