Ricardo Lamas vs Charles Oliveira on tap for UFC return to Mexico

BJ Penn is injured, UFC Manila is canceled, but Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) featherweight contender Ricardo Lamas, like the show, must go on.

Thank Charles Oliveira for that.

“Do Bronx” has agreed to step in on short notice to tangle with “The Bully” at the upcoming UFC Fight Night 98 mixed martial arts (MMA) event on FOX Sports 1, locked and loaded for Arena Mexico in Mexico City, Mexico, on Sat., Nov. 5, 2016.

“I’m really happy with this fight,” Oliveira told MMA Fighting. “I only have 25 days to prepare for it, but I’m thrilled. I’ve never fought in Mexico, but I trained for six weeks in Texas for my last fight and there are a lot of Mexicans there, and they always treated me really well – and I hope it continues this way.”

Lamas was expected to fight Penn this weekend in the Philippines; however, a rib injury benched “The Prodigy” and forced the promotion — unable to secure a late replacement — to shelve the event altogether and scatter the leftover fights across upcoming events.

Oliveira, meanwhile, is coming off a submission loss to Anthony Pettis back in August. To see who else is fighting at UFC Fight Night 98: “Dos Anjos vs. Ferguson” click here.
