Rob Font will end a near one-year layoff when he meets Ricky Simon on Dec. 7.

A pair of rising bantamweights will meet at UFC Washington this winter.

Rob Font vs. Ricky Simon has been added to the Dec. 7 card in Washington D.C., the Washington Post reported Tuesday. UFC officials have not yet confirmed the matchup.

Font hasn’t competed since last December, when he defeated Sergio Pettis by unanimous decision at UFC Milwaukee. The 32-year-old was scheduled to face Cody Stamann, then John Lineker, at UFC Greenville in June, but both fighters pulled out due to injuries.

A Massachusetts native, Font hoped to fight on the UFC Boston card earlier this month, but a fight did not come to fruition for that event. Font is 2-2 in his last four Octagon outings.

Simon was favored to beat UFC Hall of Famer Urijah Faber in the UFC Sacramento co-main event in July in Faber’s return from retirement. It would’ve been the biggest win of Simon’s career, but the Vancouver, Washington native lost via first-round TKO.

The defeat snapped Simon’s eight-fight winning streak, which included three UFC wins against Rani Yahya, Montel Jackson, and Merab Dvalishvili.

UFC Washington is expected to be headlined by a pivotal heavyweight bout between Alistair Overeem and Walt Harris.
