Sorry Mr. Diamond, but the Pharaohs got nothing on Robbie Lawler.
I’ve got some bad news for Colby Covington.
It seems “Chaos” is about to become the next victim of the Robbie Lawler curse, which means he’s likely to lose his upcoming welterweight title fight against Kamaru Usman in the UFC 245 pay-per-view (PPV) main event this December in Las Vegas.
Something Ben Askren learned the hard way.
“Funky” was a victim of a “Ruthless” fracking at UFC 235 back in March, but then snuck out of “Sin City” with a submission victory — thanks to an assist from referee Herb Dean. Since then, the former Bellator champ was finished in back-to-back fights, including last weekend’s submission loss to Demian Maia at UFC Singapore (highlights).
He’s not the only one.
Some notable fighters’ records since last fighting Robbie Lawler:
– Ben Askren: 0-2
– Rafael dos Anjos: 1-3
– Donald Cerrone: 4-4
– Carlos Condit: 0-5
– Rory MacDonald: 3-3-1
– Johny Hendricks: 2-5
– Matt Brown: 2-4
– Jake Ellenberger: 2-7
– Josh Koscheck: 0-4 #UFCSingapore— Ben Kiely (@TheJivemaster) October 27, 2019
Yikes.
The lone exception is former welterweight champion Tyron Woodley, who sports a winning record of 3-1-1 since planishing Lawler back in summer 2016. It will be interesting to see if the promotion tries to book Askren vs. Lawler 2 now that both fighters are coming off a loss.
