A flyweight fight between Gillian Robertson and Miranda Maverick has been added to UFC 258.
UFC 258 continues to take shape as it has added another women’s flyweight fight to its lineup. Gillian Robertson and Miranda Maverick will be meeting each other inside of the Octagon as was first reported by the latter on her Instagram account. The announcement from Maverick was later confirmed by several media outlets, but has yet to declared official by the UFC.
Following a successful run under the Invicta FC banner between 2016 and 2020, Maverick made her promotional debut in the UFC at UFC 254 against Liana Jojua. Maverick earned a first-round technical knockout over Jojua, who sustained a significant cut on the bridge of her nose after several elbows from her opponent. The win over Jojua was the first knockout win in the professional career of Maverick.
Robertson has grown into a very well-known name in the women’s flyweight division after her introduction to the promotion in 2017. After submitting Emily Whitmire and Molly McCann in her first two fights, Robertson picked up some wins and losses, bringing her record to 6-3 in the UFC. Most recently, Robertson lost a unanimous decision to Talia Santos at UFC Fight Night: Thompson vs. Neal, bringing a two-fight win streak to an end.
A week or so after the loss to Santos, Robertson competed in Submission Underground 20, where she submitted Pearl Gonzalez in the first round.
UFC 258 is expected to be headlined by a welterweight championship fight between current champion Kamaru Usman and No. 2 ranked contender Gilbert Burns. The location and venue of the event has yet to be determined.
