Roger Gracie has yet to make a decision about his next step as a professional fighter.
A multiple time jiu-jitsu world champion, Roger Gracie was released from the UFC following a unanimous decision loss to Tim Kennedy at UFC 162 and said he would wait for 2014 to make a decision. However, he’s still undecided.
“To tell you the truth, I haven’t decided my future yet,” Gracie told MMAFighting.com. “I spent a month in Brazil, and now my students will compete at the European (Jiu-Jitsu Championship) in Lisbon, so I will help them and then decide what’s next for me.”
With a 6-2 MMA record, and multiple titles in jiu-jitsu and submission competitions, the 32-year-old fighter said retirement is an option, but feels he’s too young to stop fighting.
“(I don’t know) if I’m going to retire, go back to jiu-jitsu or fight MMA,” he said. “This is my dilemma. I’m taking my time to make up my mind, I don’t want to rush it. I will make a decision in the coming weeks. I can’t let the time pass or I can’t do one thing or another.
“It’s my love for fighting,” he said. “I believe I’m young to retire now. I know that I will have to retire one day, but not now. I can compete at the highest level. I’m still deciding which way I’m going. I haven’t competed in jiu-jitsu for four years. And MMA, I don’t know if I’m going this way. I’m in doubt.”
If he ever decides to return to MMA, the Strikeforce and UFC veteran has a few promotions interested in signing him.
“We received a lot of offers,” he said. “My manager (Jorge Guimaraes) analyzed them, but I haven’t decided my future yet, so that’s why we haven’t signed anything yet.”
