Flyweight prospect Rogerio Bontorin wants to make the best of his opportunity to take on former title challenger Ray Borg at UFC Rio Rancho.
In an interview with Ag Fight, Bontorin explained he plans to keep the fight on the feet, even though he is a grappler with 11 submission wins under his belt and only three TKO victories, and will look for yet another knockout finish on Saturday night.
“I prepared really well for his Ray Borg fight,” Bontorin said. “I’m sure it’ll be a hard fight and I’m certain I’ll get the win. I came to make it a striking fight and I’ll try to finish the fight before all three rounds are up. I know it’s a good opportunity, because he’s a guy who has lots of fights in the promotion. I see every fight as a test, but I think this one will be the greatest challenge of my career.”
Currently on a two-fight winning streak in the Octagon, Rogerio Bontorin (16-1) edged out Magomed Bibulatov via split decision in his debut, in February 2019, then followed that up with a TKO victory against Raulian Paiva in August of the same year. The 27-year-old’s last loss happened in October 2017, when he was tapped out by UFC veteran Michinori Tanaka.
UFC Rio Rancho is scheduled to be headlined by a light heavyweight bout between contenders Corey Anderson and Jan Blachowicz.
