Yoel Romero will finally get to make his highly-anticipated debut for Bellator MMA at an upcoming event on Sept. 18, 2021. That’s according to Ariel Helwani, who revealed that “Soldier of God” will face fellow UFC veteran Phil Davis in the five-round main event in San Jose, Calif.

Romero was initially tasked to face Anthony Johnson in the opening round of the promotion’s Light Heavyweight Grand Prix earlier this year before he was forced out after not getting medically cleared to compete. As a result, Johnson faced Jose Augusto, knocking him out to advance to the next round.

Now that Romero is medically cleared, he looks to make a splash in his new home against the former Bellator Light Heavyweight champion of the world who was bounced from the Grand Prix by division champion, Vadim Nemkov, snapping his three-fight win streak.

As for Romero, he is currently riding a three fight losing streak — all under the UFC banner — and hasn’t tasted victory since defeating Luke Rockhold at UFC 221 in 2018. A former two-time title contender, Romero has big wins over Chris Weidman, Ronaldo Souza and Lyoto Machida.
