Let’s try this again.
Yoel Romero vs. Paulo Costa, which is quickly becoming the Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Tony Ferguson of the middleweight division, is once again on the books. Where and when? The upcoming UFC 241 pay-per-view (PPV) event, scheduled for Sat., Aug. 17, 2019 inside Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
That’s according to a report from ESPN.
After their UFC 230 showdown failed to materialize (because of this), the warring middleweights were expected to hook ‘em up on ESPN just last month. Costa, however, was forced to withdraw to settle his ongoing IV issues in New York, while Romero was bounced from the event due to pneumonia.
In their place, Jack Hermansson went on to upset Ronaldo Souza.
Romero (13-3) hasn’t been seen since his five-round unanimous decision loss to Robert Whittaker at UFC 225 last July. It was the second time “Soldier of God” came up empty against “The Reaper,” his only two defeats inside the Octagon.
As for Costa (12-0), he’s been gone equally long. “The Eraser” last competed against Uriah Hall at UFC 226, also in July 2018, canceling “Prime Time” by way of second-round technical knockout, extending his finish streak to 12.
Also getting their hands dirty at UFC 241 are heavyweight rivals Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic, who run it back for “DC’s” 265-pound strap. No other fights have been announced at this time, but you can expect that to change sooner, rather than later.
