Ghanaian-American fighter Ron “Abongo” Humphrey (7-2) is set to step back into a Strikeforce cage next month when he meets light-heavyweight fighter Ovince Saint Preux at the next Strikefoce Challengers event.
Humphrey looks to improve his Strikeforce record after going 1-2 with the promotion was submitted by Mike Kyle at a previous Challengers event in July. He had been a perfect 6-0 before stepping into a Strikeforce cage and looks to get back on track with a big win over Saint Preux on Jan. 7th.
“If you look back at the two fights I’ve lost, most would say I was dominating those fights. As I got into the later rounds, I started to fade away. And that was because of the conditioning I was lacking. I have to have something besides just my athleticism and skill. It takes coaching, it takes conditioning. And I think that’s something that I have now. The one thing that comes to mind is that I’m going to dominate (Saint Preux) in every facet of the game. I feel that I’m a better striker than he is, I feel that my ground game is better than his, and I’m not the same fighter as I was. It’s taken me awhile, but I’ve matured a lot. I’ve taken a long walk on a short path, so to speak. Knowing what my weaknesses are, and having a willingness to work on those things is going to make me the all-around better fighter on that night.”
You can find the entire interview with Humphrey as he explains how he got his nickname “Abongo” at Strikeforce.com.
Strikeforce Challengers 13: Woodley vs. Saffiedine is set for Jan. 7th at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee. Showtime will carry the main card on their network including the Saint Preux vs. Humphrey fight.
