As if Ronda Rousey wasn’t busy enough.
The UFC women’s bantamweight champion, fresh off her 34-second knockout of Bethe Correia at UFC 190 on Saturday night, will star in and produce a movie based on her recently released autobiography, Variety reported Monday.
It’s unclear when Rousey would be working on this new project, which is near and dear to her. The 28-year-old champion is likely to fight Miesha Tate for a third time either at the end of the year or the beginning of next. After that, she has said she’ll be filming the movie “Mile 22,” which she stars in alongside Mark Wahlberg.
Paramount Pictures purchased the film rights to Rousey’s book, My Fight/Your Fight, which was released in June. Rousey co-wrote the book with her sister and sports journalist Maria Burns Ortiz.
Variety reported that Rousey shopped the biopic with being the star in mind and Paramount executives were wowed by her ability to balance her dominant UFC career and making movies.
“It would be kind of cool to do like an ‘8 Mile,'” Rousey said in a scrum last week in Rio, referencing the Eminem movie. “Like an ‘8 Mil’e meets ‘Rocky’ kind of a thing. I don’t know. We’ll see. I’ve gotta beat Bethe first.”
Mark Bomback, of “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” and “The Wolverine” fame, will be the executive producer of the biopic. Mary Parent will produce along with Rousey. Parent was involved in both “Godzilla” and “Pacific Rim.”
Rousey (12-0) continued running roughshod over the UFC’s 135-pound women’s division Saturday night in Rio de Janeiro. She finished Correia with a flurry of punches, culminating in a hard right hand to the temple. “Rowdy,” represented by famed William Morris Endeavor and agent Brad Slater, is far and away the UFC’s biggest mainstream star.
Over the last two years, Rousey has been in major Hollywood movies like “The Expendables 3,” “Fast & Furious 7” and “Entourage.”
