Fight team to be awarded grant by Rogue Warrior Championships to help vets
Press Release – (Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA): It was revealed today that Milwaukee-based fight team Roufusport has been awarded a grant from rising MMA promotion Rogue Warrior Championships to assist military veterans in dealing with the effects of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The gym will be the initial recipient of this special endowment.
The grant will be presented to Roufusport partners Duke Roufus, Scott Joffe, and UFC Lightweight title contender Anthony Pettis at a ceremony taking place at Dick Marcinko’s Rogue Warrior Fighting Championships event at the Oneida Casino in Green Bay, Wisconsin tonight.
Recent studies have indicated that MMA training can help vets deal with their PTSD, and Roufusport is proud to join the fight. As the result of this grant, any military veteran with certified PTSD will be allowed to train at Roufusport for free for a year.
“Everyone at Roufusport has such a high level of respect for our fighting men and women,” stated Roufus. “Though it pales in comparison to the sacrifices our soldiers make for us on a daily basis, it is an honor for us to be able to give back what we can.”
Commander Dick Marcinko is the bestselling author of the Rogue Warrior series, and was also the founder and first commander of the U.S. Navy’s elite Seal Team Six. His fight promotion will further honor vets at their event tonight, as several military veterans will be entering the cage to fight in support of their wounded comrades. Among the competitors will be two that have been awarded the Purple Heart, and one Bronze Star with the V for valor in combat.
Many MMA stars will also be in attendance for this special night, including the UFC’s Pettis, top UFC featherweight contender Erik Koch, former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Rashad Evans, UFC bantamweight star Scott Jorgensen, former UFC Heavyweight Champion Tim Sylvia, former UFC Lightweight Champion Jens Pulver, and many more. Fans in attendance will have the opportunity to meet these stars and join them in support of the troops on this special night.
