Roy Jones Jr. thinks YouTuber Jake Paul has a good chance against Tyron Woodley.
Boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. thinks YouTuber Jake Paul has a ‘good chance’ of beating Tyron Woodley on Aug. 28, telling TMZ Sports that the 24-year-old Disney star has a solid foundation in boxing.
“He [Paul] has a good chance because he has a decent boxing background,” Roy Jones said. “He’s been training with some good guys and he knows how to box”.
Jones, who fought Mike Tyson to a draw in an eight-round exhibition bout last year, is also impressed with Woodley’s boxing skills and says the winner will be determined by who has the better fundamentals.
“Tyron Woodley also has a good boxing background,” Jones added. “So it depends on who has the better background and who has the better teachers because, if you’ve got background, someone can tune you up easily”.
Jones says Paul training with boxing gloves on gives him a considerable advantage over the fighter who has spent his career training, and fighting, with MMA gloves on.
“When you’ve got boxing gloves on, those blows are a little different than just MMA gloves. What will determine the outcome is who can deliver the better blow with boxing gloves on, because punching with boxing gloves on and punching with MMA gloves on is two different things”.
The former multiple-division world champion added that the outcome favors Woodley the longer the fight goes on.
“Early Jake is gonna be an issue because Jake can punch. But as the fight goes on, Woodley gets comfortable, Woodley can take him out”.
Paul is 3-0 as a pro boxer, with highlight reel KO victories over AnEsonGib, Nate Robinson and Ben Askren. Woodley is a former UFC champion with multiple stoppage victories over world class MMA fighters.
Paul vs. Woodley is scheduled to take place on August 28 at a TBA location.
