White said he and matchmaker Joe Silva had huddled and hatched the plan shortly after Nelson blasted Cheick Kongo.

Cormier fought just last weekend, earning a unanimous decision over Frank Mir at UFC on FOX 7. Hunt, meanwhile, has his biggest match yet in front of him. He’s scheduled to take on former UFC champ Junior dos Santos at UFC 160 next month.

While Nelson hoped to be knocking on the door of a title match, he said he was more than happy to accept either fight.

“I’m there,” he said. “Whatever. I want to fight the best in world. Fighting Daniel, he’s an Olympian. I’m more than happy to welcome him to the UFC. As for Mark Hunt, if he can get past JDS, that’d be great. And even if he doesn’t, I’d still fight Mark Hunt because I know the fans want to see that one. So, I’m all about making everybody happy.”

Through Twitter, Cormier seemed to accept the fight as well, writing that he agreed with White that it would make “a damn good fight.”
