A heavyweight bout between Roy Nelson and Antonio Silva has been finalized for UFC Fight Night: Cyborg vs. Lansberg in Brasilia, Brazil.
Despite back-to-back quick knockout losses, former UFC heavyweight title challenger Antonio Silva will get another fight inside the Octagon. The UFC Brazil official website confirmed that “Bigfoot” will face Roy Nelson on the main card of UFC Fight Night in Brasilia, Brazil.
Silva (19-9-1) failed to last 20 seconds with Stefan Struve at UFC Rotterdam in May, as the Dutchman knocked him out without much trouble. This followed a 1st round knockout loss to Mark Hunt at UFC 193, in what was a rematch of their epic first meeting (which ended in a draw) in December 2013. Bigfoot’s only win in his last 7 fights is a 2nd round stoppage of Soa Palelei, who retired after their UFC 190 bout. Silva has suffered five KO or TKO losses over the past 3 years, and all 8 of his knockout losses have occurred in the opening round.
Nelson (21-13) hasn’t fared much better than Bigfoot in the win column, but only Mark Hunt has been able to knock him out during this 2-6 stretch. “Big Country” was on the wrong end of a split decision vs. Derrick Lewis at UFC Fight Night: Dos Anjos vs. Alvarez on July 7th. His previous outing was a unanimous decision win over Jared Rosholt in February, which marked Nelson’s first win by decision in his entire UFC career. Known for his big right hand, 6 of Nelson’s 7 knockout victories in the UFC have come within the opening frame.
UFC Fight Night in Brasilia will feature a 140 lbs catchweight main event between Invicta FC featherweight champion Cris Cyborg and newcomer Lina Lansberg. The Saturday, September 24th main card will air live on Fox Sports 1.
