Strikeforce lightweight, Ryan Couture (1-0) will fight for the second time as a professional in a months time as part of the upcoming Strikeforce Challengers 14 event on Feb. 14. Couture, the son of UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture, will meet Lee Higgins (2-0) at the event.
MMAjunkie.com reported the news on Wednesday, citing a source close to the promotion who confirmed that verbal agreements had been made for the two to fight.
Couture had his first pro-fight on August 13 at a Strikeforce Challengers 10 show in Phoenix, Arizona. He earned a quick first round submission over Lucas Stark on the Showtime televised portion of the event. It’s likely that fans will see him fight on the broadcast of the SF 14 show too.
Higgins earned both of his victories last year winning both fights by rear-naked choke submission in the first round. His last victory was at a International Xtreme Fight Association event in December against Gilbert Jimenez.
The Strikeforce Challengers 14 show is scheduled to take place on Feb. 18 at the Cedar Park Center in Cedar Park, Texas with the main card airing on Showtime.
