Once Conor McGregor has someone in his crosshairs, he won’t let up until he has the final word. It’s a trash talk trademark that has helped make him the polarizing box office draw he is today.
Recently, though, he has crossed the line with his mouthy mind games. Before, during and after his trilogy bout against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264, McGregor brought Poirier’s wife into the fold, which is a big no-no in the eyes of pretty much everyone. He then mocked the death of Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father, which prompted Daniel Cormier to step in and say his latest antics were a cry for help.
That’s all it took to set off the Irishman.
McGregor has been all over “D.C.” recently, making fun of his weight and appearance. Of course, Cormier isn’t one to sit idle, advising McGregor to stop worrying about what he has to say as a UFC analyst and to shift his focus on the guys who “keep beating his ass” inside the Octagon. A few hours after that response, McGregor hopped on Twitter and once again took it to the former “champ-champ.”
On this occasion, McGregor accused Cormier of being drunk while on the job, claiming “D.C.” was tipsy during a promotional event the day before UFC 264. McGregor deleted the tweets, which has been customary for him as of late, but MMA Fighting was able to grab the screen shots:
“Daniel Cormier is a fat mess, getting in worse condition by the day. God bless him. Showing up drunk to media events the very day before he was in the booth calling my fight,” McGregor said.
Cormier and fellow analyst Laura Sanko did take part in a drinking game on UFC 264’s weigh-in special, but it wasn’t as if they pulled an all-nighter as McGregor may suggest. In fact, Sanko came to Cormier’s defense saying he was far from drunk:
I can assure everyone he wasn’t actually drunk. DC is a funny guy and he was having fun. He’s twice my size, we drank the same amount just as fast (well, almost lol) and I was fine. He was joking around. He’s a true professional on all levels. https://t.co/WXbVazrnN8

You be the judge — here is the video of their “professional” beer chug race on the ESPN set:

McGregor claims the entire incident was inappropriate and Cormier should be fired.
“It is a sackable offense for a commentator to be drunk at press work the day before commentating the big fight, Dreadful. Get it together,” he said. “Belchin in the mic at a press event and all, WTF? The day before commenting the big fight? Is this guy serious? Disgraceful.
“Your back situation is just mental, too. Your weight and way of life is abysmal. And now drunk at work before you commentate the big McGregor event,” continued McGregor before throwing one last jab at Cormier. “Congratulate Jon on his head kick KO anniversary over you. Good always defats evil. Wasn’t sure you were evil. Fakes.”
Naturally, Cormier once again fired back, telling McGregor — who admitted he drank quite a bit of alcohol during UFC 229 fight week — that coming at him was pointless because they’d never get the chance to actually fight each other.
Something tells me it’s going to take more than that to silence “Notorious.”
