Sam Alvey ain’t smiling and neither are fans.
UFC Vegas 33 is looking less and less enticing by the minute after the cancellation of Sam Alvey vs. Roman Kopylov.
Alvey (33-15) vs. Kopylov (8-1) has been scrapped from the main card of UFC Vegas 33 (see the poster), headlined by Uriah Hall vs. Sean Strickland and taking place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, NV. on Sat., July 31 via ESPN and ESPN+. Alvey revealed on his TikTok that Kopylov could not make it to the United States and that “Smilen” Sam would fight a new opponent on Aug. 28.
“You’ve spent the last 12 weeks of your life losing close to 40-pounds bleeding, sweating, crying, tearing up, breaking yourself, breaking other people and just working your ass to the bone just to find out on your ride to the airport that your opponent who is Russian couldn’t make it for various reasons,” Alvey explained in the third-person. “But the UFC will find a replacement fight for you this week. So you then continue to the airport, get to the airport, get a text that they could not fight a replacement fight for you but they have another fight for you with a different guy a month from now.”
Alvey, a veteran of 50 professional fights, is winless across his last six outings. His most recent win was a split decision against Gian Villante on June 1, 2018.

Outside of the main event, UFC Vegas 33’s less-than-stacked main card currently boasts Shamil Abdurakhimov vs. Chris Daukaus, Cheyanne Buys vs. Gloria de Paula, Kyung Ho Kang vs. Rani Yahya, and Bryan Barberena vs. Jason Witt. The mainline ESPN card runs opposite Bellator 263, which is headlined by a Bellator Featherweight title match pitting Patricio Pitbull vs. A.J. McKee to crown the winner of the $1 million Bellator Featherweight Grand Prix.
