Diego Sanchez claims a slimy MMA journalist gave longtime rival Nick Diaz his personal Email and despite interviewing them both back in the early days of UFC (here and here) — and being slimy — I can assure you it wasn’t me.
“Nick Diaz used to send me emails,” Sanchez told fellow TUF 1 graduate Mike Swick (via MMA Fighting). “He found my email, he talked to one of the MMA journalists at the time, there wasn’t many. Gave him my email and he would e-mail me hate mails.”
Sanchez defeated Diaz in a welterweight main event atop the TUF 2 Finale in late 2005, with “The Nightmare” capturing a unanimous decision victory. I’m sure that loss only made things worse, at least for the temperament of Diaz, who soon went after Mama Sanchez.
“Talking shit about my mom, talking shit about my dad, just trying to get under my skin with everything he had,” Sanchez continued. “He hated me. He hated Ultimate Fighters because we got all that attention. He was in the spotlight at that time, he hated us and he hated me.”
So did his “crybaby” brother.
A rematch seemed inevitable but after a hot-and-cold run in the years that followed — which included his hospital brawl with Joe Riggs — Diaz parted ways with UFC to try his luck in both EliteXC and Strikeforce, where he eventually captured the welterweight title.
Sanchez (30-12) returns to the Octagon to battle Jake Matthews as part of next month’s UFC 253 event. The missing-in-action Diaz (26-9, 2 NC), meanwhile, has not competed since losing to Anderson Silva back in 2015.
