A bantamweight bout between knockout artists Sean O’Malley and Thomas Almeida is seeminling in the works,
Bantamweight prospect Sean O’Malley is now announcing his own fights on YouTube and it seems that the Marlon Vera rematch will have to wait. During the latest video on his channel, ‘Suga’ claimed to have a contract to take on another heavy-handed man – Thomas Almeida – in a fight meant to take place at UFC 260, on March 27.
In his last outing, O’Malley (12-1) lost his unbeaten streak and any aura of invincibility to Vera via TKO defeat in August 2020. Before the loss, the 26-year-old was on a four-fight winning streak in the Octagon, with victories over Terrion Ware, Andre Soukhamthath, Jose Alberto Quinonez and veteran Eddie Wineland — the last two by way of knockout.
A once rising prospect now trying to get back on the winning column, Almeida (22-4) is in dire need of a victory. Currenty on a three-fight losing skid, the Brazilian suffered losses to Jimmie Rivera and Rob Font before spending two years on the sidelines, only to come back and drop a decision defeat to Jonathan Martinez, in October 2020. The 29-year-old’s last win dates back to November 2016, when he beat Albert Moralez by TKO.
Now, O’Malley is expected to take on Almeida at UFC 260, on March 27, in a location yet to be determined. The card is scheduled to be headlined by a rematch for the heavyweight title between the champion, Stipe Miocic, and top contender Francis Ngannou.
