All charges against a UFC fighter’s father in an Oklahoma sexual assault case have been dismissed.
James Lee Mein, father of Jordan, pleaded not guilty to a charge of outraging public decency last week following a deferred sentence in Tulsa County court, according to court records. The case was dismissed and Mein’s record was expunged. Sherdog was first to report the news.
Mein, 47, was arrested on charges of sexual battery on Aug. 22 in Tulsa, the day before Jordan was set to fight Mike Pyle at UFC Fight Night 49. Mein was accused of sexually assaulting a housekeeper at the UFC host hotel. He was out the following day on $2,000 bail, but banned by the UFC from attending the event.
The felony charge of sexual battery was bumped down to one for outraging public decency in December and Mein took an Alford plea for a deferred sentence. An Alford plea is a guilty plea when the defendant proclaims he is innocent, but admits the prosecution has enough evidence to prove he is guilty.
Mein’s deferred sentence, which is like a probation period, was for 90 days. Mein fulfilled the stipulations of the probation and the charge of outraging public decency was thrown out and struck from his record.
Mein was in the corner of Jordan when he took on Thiago Alves at UFC 183 on Jan. 31 in Las Vegas. Jordan lost in that fight via second-round TKO, but won his previous two before that, including a first-round knockout of Pyle the day after his father was arrested.
Lee Mein, who also coaches Jordan in Alberta, Canada, owns a record of 6-13 as an MMA fighter. He last fought at World Series of Fighting Canada on Feb. 21, 2014, falling to Tim Hague by first-round TKO.
Mein’s attorney Jason Edge release the following statement to TopMMANews.com:
Mr. Mein (Lee) is finally able to put this nightmare behind him. He has maintained his innocence throughout and never once waivered – He simply did not commit this crime! It is sad when some people see a spotlight and are willing to throw false accusations against another innocent person. To be fair it should be noted that the accuser in this case is an ex-con who had just very recently been released from prison. The inconsistencies and improbabilities in her statements are astounding.
The felony charge against Lee was dismissed outright. In the end Lee maintained his innocence; he was found guilty of nothing; and all charges levied against him have been dismissed and expunged from his criminal record. Lee leaves this process just as innocent as he started it.
