A battle of big heavyweights is likely to take place in Brooklyn.
Ciryl Gane didn’t take long to crack the UFC heavyweight rankings, and the undefeated French fighter will likely have the opportunity to improve the number next to his name in April. While the bout hasn’t been officially announced as of yet, it is expected that Gane will meet Shamil Abdurakhimov at UFC 249 in Brooklyn.
French outlet La Sueur first reported the booking.
Gane (6-0, 3-0 UFC) has impressed thus far in the Octagon, picking up three wins in the UFC despite not debuting until late in the year.
Abdurakhimov (20-5, 5-3 UFC) had a four-fight winning streak stopped by Curtis Blaydes in his last outing. He is currently sitting in the 10 spot in the UFC heavyweight rankings.
UFC 249 will go down in Barclay Center in Brooklyn, NY on April 18th. The event will be headlined by a UFC lightweight title fight between champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and former interim champ Tony Ferguson. Also expected for the card is a battle of former strawweight champions, pitting Rose Namajunas against Jessica Andrade in a rematch.
