Mixed martial arts (MMA) never ceases to amaze.

Ares FC 23 will take place in Aubervilliers, France tonight (Thurs., July 11, 2024). However, the event will be one fight lighter after an astronomically careless new achievement in weight mismanagement.

Undefeated 3-0 Canadian Bantamweight prospect, Sierra Dinwoodie, was booked to make her promotional debut against France’s Danielle Koudou. Unfortunately for Dinwoodie, her professional debutant counterpart just decided to not cut weight whatsoever. Considering how things played out, it almost seems like she gained weight before the fight, which has now been canceled.

“Unfortunately, I will not be fighting tomorrow night,” Dinwoodie said on Instagram yesterday (Weds., July 10, 2024). “Yesterday, we got a call, my opponent would not be able to make the contract weight of 135 pounds. So, we agreed upon a Catchweight of 155, but this morning, going into weigh-ins, she was another eight kilograms (18 pounds) heavier than that. So, that’s 37 pounds over the agreed-upon weight.

“I was still ready to fight, I don’t care,” she continued. “I wanted to get in there. I didn’t fly across the ocean to come hang out. I wanted to get in the cage and put on a show for everyone. Unfortunately, the commission wouldn’t allow it with that kind of difference. I’ll be back and I’ll be more ready than ever.”

Dinwoodie has taken the whole situation in stride and handled it like a champ. However, social media has reacted appropriately with shock and thoughts aplenty on this unprecedented lack of professionalism.
