Chase Sherman becomes the latest UFC fighter to fail a USADA test.
UFC heavyweight Chase Sherman has been suspended by USADA for nine months after testing positive for anastrozole.
USADA confirmed Sherman’s test failure on Tuesday. Anastrozole is an anti-estrogen drug that is used to treat breast cancer, but in sports it’s commonly used to counteract estrogen produced from consuming substances that boost testosterone.
Sherman’s test failure comes from a test issued in May when he defeated Ike Villanueva via second-round TKO. The heavyweight will be eligible to compete again after Feb. 13, 2021.
“Upon being added to the UFC Anti-Doping Program, an athlete who voluntarily and promptly discloses the use of a prohibited substance prior to testing will not be deemed to have committed a violation if they test positive from the prior use,” USADA’s official statement read. “While Sherman provided sufficient evidence that his use of anastrozole occurred prior to entering the program, he did not declare anastrozole on his onboarding declaration form and therefore he faces a violation for the presence of the substance in his sample.
The Florida Boxing Commission may also issue a suspension to Sherman over his failed drug test, but no further punishment has been issued to 30-year-old yet.
