Now that Joanna Jedrzejczyk has been removed from the 125-pound title chase, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will have to hunt for a new and worthy challenger to the flyweight throne, currently occupied by former bantamweight Valentina Shevchenko.
Jessica Eye has answered the call.
“I want a title shot, I want it for me, my fans, the true Jessica fans,” Eye told The Ariel Helwani MMA Show. “I feel like I’ve been denied that chance multiple times.”
Eye scored her third-straight victory by turning away Katlyn Chookagian at the UFC 231 pay-per-view (PPV) event last Saturday night (Dec. 8, 2018) in Toronto (recap), the same fight card that saw Shevchenko capture vacant gold.
Not surprisingly, “Bullet” is down for an “Evil” showdown.
“I’m ready to fight anyone,” Shevchenko told Helwani. “If the UFC want to make this fight, that’s no problem with me.”
With Nicco Montano stricken from the record, the next in line, at least according to the current rankings, are Chookagian and Sijara Eubanks. The former was just eliminated while the latter is moving up to the “swole” division.
Shevchenko vs. Eye seems like a lock … unless this “Girl-Rilla” — who already holds a win over “Bullet” — has something to say about it.
