Despite three consecutive losses, former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley still believes he’s the best welterweight on the planet. Unfortunately for “The Chosen One,” he spent too much time trying to prove the haters wrong and not enough time focusing on his own performance.
That’s why the artist formerly known as “T-Wood” will be getting back to basics in the UFC 260 pay-per-view (PPV) co-main event this Sat. night (March 27, 2021) at APEX in Las Vegas. Opposing Woodley is No. 10-ranked action fighter Vicente Luque, who is also looking to prove he belongs in the Top 5.
“I’m still on top. I’m still fast. I’m still probably the best mind in our division, as far as knowing what’s going on,” Woodley said during the UFC 260 media day (via MMA Fighting). “Life is not always a straight path. It can be, but we make choices, and I made choices in my life that veered me off that path.”
Woodley, who turns 39 in April, could face the UFC chopping block with a fourth straight loss. It’s not simply the fact “The Chosen One” has been losing, he’s looked completely clueless in each defeat, getting dominated by Kamaru Usman, Gilbert Burns, and Colby Covington.
“Quitting is not an option,” Woodley continued. “I’ve got to go out on top like I plan to do in the way I saw myself at the beginning of the sport. That’s not the way. It wasn’t losing to these guys. Although they were the champion, one, and two. But on paper, I’m a better fighter than all of them.”
It’s not enough to say it, Woodley must now go out and prove it.
