One thing you can never say about Ilir Latifi is that he likes to take the easy road.

After Daniel Cormier made history by becoming Ultimate Fighting Championship’s second-ever “champ champ” at UFC 226 (video), Ilir called for a Light Heavyweight title fight against “DC,” who holds both the 205-pound and the Heavyweight straps.

Cormier, however, didn’t give him the time of day as he was intent on sticking to his guns to see how the fight between Mauricio Rua and Anthony Smith played out. After “Lionheart” knocked “Shogun” out on his feet, Cormier was then directed to Corey Anderson, who defeated top contender Glover Teixeira earlier in the evening.

Indeed, “25/8” called for a title shot against Cormier, to which “DC” surprisingly accepted. As a result, Latifi took to social media to brand the multi-division champion a coward for picking easy fights instead of tough challenges.

Check it out:

@dc_mma You don’t answer me but you answer Corey? I respected you for wanting money fights as your last fights, but not easier fights. A champ don’t act like that. You don’t want to fight me? Because you know it’s going to be hard. Don’t go out like a coward champ.

Cormier finally broke his silence and responded to “The Sledgehammer.”

If a title fight against “DC” doesn’t become a reality, Ilir will turn his attention to former champion Jon Jones, as he called out the embattled star to a UFC showdown.

Pride lives with you after your carrier ends. I have 5 wins of my last 6 with 3 finishes in the first round, Corey has 3 last 6 with 1 finish in his 11 last fights. Corey is no money fight, just a easier fight then me. So @JonnyBones when you get back let’s do it.

Bold.

Of course, Jones is currently embroiled in a legal battle with United States Anti Doping Agency (USADA), so timetable for his eventual combat return is unclear. Whether or not he will actually entertain Latifi’s challenge once he’s cleared, remains to be seen.

The question is: Do you want to see it?
