Snubbed Edwards Rips Masvidal, UFC Rankings

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight, Leon Edwards, has captured seven straight wins, is 9-2 inside the Octagon, and has never been finished in his professional mixed martial arts (MMA) career.

“Rocky” also holds victories over Donald Cerrone and Gunnar Nelson, just to name a few.

That’s a pretty impressive resume, which is why Edwards can’t understand why he lost a spot in this week’s official rankings, dropping out of the Top 10 and landing at No. 11 with the introduction of former lightweight champion, Anthony Pettis.

It may have cost him a big fight.

“Fuck the rankings, how can people who’s getting fucked up and losing be above me,” Edwards wrote on Twitter. “WTF is happening?”

Here’s the updated Top 15, courtesy of UFC.com:

Champion: Kamaru Usman

1 Tyron Woodley
2 Colby Covington
3 Rafael Dos Anjos +1
4 Jorge Masvidal +1
5 Ben Askren +1
6 Darren Till +1
7 Stephen Thompson -4
8 Anthony Pettis *NR
9 Santiago Ponzinibbio -1
10 Robbie Lawler -1
11 Leon Edwards -1
12 Demian Maia -1
13 Neil Magny -1
14 Elizeu Dos Santos -1
15 Vicente Luque

Pettis upset the 170-pound apple cart with his knockout win over Thompson last weekend in Nashville (video). Masvidal, ranked No. 4, recently stopped Darren Till to snap a two-fight losing streak, one that included defeats to Thompson and Demian Maia.

I guess that was good enough to land “Gamebred” a potential pairing with Ben Askren, leaving Edwards out in the cold yet again, despite their backstage beef (watch it) that had the Internet buzzing in the wake of UFC London.

“Don’t you dare take that Askren fight pussy,” Edwards told Masvidal on social media. “I told you now you’re fucked. You got saved by security last time, you will not be saved by the UFC this time.”

Askren looks to have secured his Masvidal showdown after turning down a “Ruthless” rematch. And based on the recent booking of Tyron Woodley vs. Robbie Lawler 2 (more on that here), “Rocky” is quickly running out of opponents.

And patience.
