Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight contender Dan Hooker dropped a five-round unanimous decision to Dustin Poirier in the UFC on ESPN 12 main event last weekend in Las Vegas, but picked up a boatload of new fans for his epic “Fight of the Night” performance against the equally-game “Diamond.”
Unfortunately for “The Hangman,” who got hung up in quarantine, COVID-19 restrictions will keep him separated from his family upon return to New Zealand, which means Hooker will have to settle for some long-distance love from his family for the next two weeks.
“So close and yet so far,” Hooker wrote on Instagram.
The loss to Poirier snapped a three-fight win streak for the 30 year-old lightweight, who stands at No. 5 in the official rankings and is unlikely to lose much ground — if any — when the new list is revealed later this week.
Expect “The Hangman” to make his Octagon return at some point later this year.
