LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – Sorry “Chaos.”

Top Brazilian prospect Carlos Prates secured the biggest win over his young Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) career in the main event of UFC Vegas 100 last night (Sat., Nov. 9, 2024) when he face-planted Neil Magny in the first round from inside the UFC Apex in Las Vegas (watch highlights).

After his fantastic knockout win, “The Nightmare” had two perfect callouts for his next outing: No. 4 ranked Welterweight Jack Della Maddalena and No. 10 seeded Geoff Neal.

During the UFC Vegas 100 post-fight press conference (watch here), Prates explained the callouts but understood it could be doubtful.

“Bro, to be honest, I think the best option would be against Jack Della Maddalena, but you have the rankings,” Prates told MMAMania.com. “So, I think he is No. 4, and probably next Tuesday, I will be No. 15, and I don’t know if he will accept the fight. Also, I don’t know if the UFC is going to do that fight or if they think it’s interesting. If the rankings [don’t make sense], I will be happy to fight against Geoff Neal – that would be cool.”

This past week, former three-time UFC title challenger Colby Covington called for a fight against Maddalena. However, sources have informed MMAMania.com that Covington prefers not to fight Maddalena in Australia. Plus, who wants to see Covington try to wrestle an exciting striker?

So, let’s be honest: a fight between Prates and Maddelena would be absolutely fireworks, and it would get Maddalena a fight in his home country of Australia—something he struggles to get because so many fighters refuse to fight “down under.”

The only problem is Maddalena may be one fight away from a Welterweight title shot, and a win against Prates doesn’t necessarily push him forward all too much.

Nevertheless, “The Nightmare” is definitely shooting for the moon but might end up in the stars while fighting Neal (which is a fun fight, too).

Prates is currently 4-0 inside the Octagon with four brutal knockout wins, basically securing him ‘Rookie of the Year.”
