Round 7: Close one here as neither man seems to really push this round. Garcia manages to throw nice counters, but Spence is using nice defense to avoid or block them. Neither landed a shot worth discussing much in that one, but it seemed Spence landed more of the small punches once again. 10-9 Spence
Round 8: Things seems to have found their way into a pretty defined groove at this point, as many matches do by these rounds. And in this case, it’s not a groove that benefits Mikey Garcia, as he’s getting hit while failing to hit back more often than not. There’s a nice shot by Spence in the closing 30 seconds, just to show this round is his. 10-9 Spence
Round 9: Spence definitely dialed up the intensity this round, stepping in and increasing both his power and his volume. He was more willing here to step inside the proverbial phone booth and throw inside. No doubt he was looking for the knockdown or stoppage here. To Garcia’s credit, Spence didn’t get it, but Garcia took a lot of shots this round. 10-9 Spence
