The UFC rankings have been updated to reflect the winners and losers of UFC Vegas 29, which took place inside APEX last Sat. night (June 19, 2021) in Las Vegas. Since Chan Sung Jung (No. 4) was already ranked four spots above Dan Ige (No. 8), there won’t be any forward movement for “The Korean Zombie” after beating “50k.”
Sergey Spivak made his debut in the heavyweight Top 15 after turning away grizzled veteran Aleksei Oleinik. “The Boa Constrictor” has now dropped his third straight and fell out of the rankings altogether. In addition, longtime bantamweight contender Marlon Vera jumped two spots to No. 13 with his unanimous decision victory over Davey Grant.
Here’s how UFC compiles its “official” rankings:
Rankings were generated by a voting panel made up of media members. The media members were asked to vote for who they feel are the top fighters in the UFC by weight-class and pound-for-pound. A fighter is only eligible to be voted on if they are in active status in the UFC. A fighter can appear in more than one weight division at a time. The champion and interim champion are considered to be in the top positions of their respective divisions and therefore are not eligible for voting by weight-class. However, the champions can be voted on for the pound-for-pound rankings.
Take a look at what the latest rankings field looks like courtesy of UFC.com. Note: (+/- = movement in rankings, T = tie, *NR = Not previously ranked).
