Combate Americas will make its return to cage fighting later this month with a slam-bang main event in the form of Steve Swanson vs. Gustavo Lopez, a bantamweight tilt set for Azteca America on Jan. 19, 2017, LIVE from El Plaza Condesa in Mexico City.
Swanson (14-2) is coming off a blistering four-fight winning streak, with all four wins coming by way of violent finish. He’ll have his hands full against the ground-savvy Lopez (6-2), who ripped through the promotion’s “Road to the Championship” tourney from 2015-16.
In the atomweight co-main event, mixed martial arts (MMA) fan favorite Nicdali Rivera-Calanoc (9-9), fresh off her gritty, hard-fought victory over Ronni Nanney last March, tangles with the venerable Lisbeth Lopez Silva (3-3).
Elsewhere on the card, bantamweight “Ghost” Jose Ceja (4-3) collides with ground wizard Joey Ruquet (3-1), while Mexico City rivals Rodrigo “Kazula” Vargas (9-5) and Marco Antonio “La Rocka” Elpidio (4-1-1) hook ‘em up in 155-pound action.
Additional bouts will air on UFC Fight Pass.
“We are excited to be assembling a phenomenal fight card, and to have the opportunity to be at the forefront of MMA’s growth in Mexico with our unique and fast-growing sports franchise,” said Combate Americas CEO Campbell McLaren.
Expect fireworks.
