Stipe Miocic reiterates interest in Anthony Joshua boxing match – ‘It would be a great fight’

UFC Heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic explains why he feels like he can beat unified world champion Anthony Joshua under boxing rules.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fighters calling out professional boxers continues to be a thing, despite all signs pointing to it being a bad idea for the mixed martial artists involved. We’ve all heard the hype surrounding a Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather fight, and Jimi Manuwa continues to insist UFC is going to let him fight David Haye sometime in the future. And now there’s Heavyweight champ Stipe Miocic, who wants to take on unified world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.

“He’s a world champ for a reason. It would just be amazing,” Miocic told the Fight Society podcast. “It would be an amazing opportunity. I would just be so grateful…. I did Golden Gloves and all that good stuff. I just love the fight. I think it would be a great fight. I think people would love to see it.

“I think it would be a great fight,” he continued. “Conor’s going to do it. It’s great cross promotion, I’d love to be a part of that.”

Miocic has been talking about a bout with Joshua since UFC 211 … and that’s no surprise. Joshua was hot coming off his huge win over Wladamir Klitschko that drew a massive 90,000 people to Wembley Stadium. It would be a huge fight largely off of Joshua’s current popularity, but that wouldn’t keep Miocic from making more off the match than any fight possible with UFC.

But, all signs point toward Dana White closing the door on boxing vs. MMA fights after the Conor McGregor bout. And wisely so, because it doesn’t do the promotion any good to have its champions sitting idle only to possibly be embarrassed by boxers in a different sport.
